Shin splints

Shin splints occur mostly in athletes and people whom stand for too long. One of the primary causes of shin splints is the wearing of incorrect and not enough cushioning footwear.

Shin splints can be recognized by pain alongside the medial edge of the tibial bone, usually between the middle and lower third of the tibia. The consensus is that there is an inflammation of the muscle fascia where the muscle transitions into the bone tissue. The pain gradually arises when strained and usually doesn’t immediately stop after. The pain can persist from several hours till several days, and in some cases, with recurring strain, it can lead to a chronic disease.

At Orthomedix we treat shin splints according to a specific protocol, where we view the entire chain of movement and make a thorough analysis of what might be the primary cause.
